Querying Contextualized Information Bases

چکیده
The notion of context appears in several disciplines, including computer science, in various forms. In this paper, we are concerned with a notion of context in the area of information bases. First, we present a general definition whereby a context is seen as a set of objects, within which each object has a set of names and possibly a reference: the reference of the object is another context which "hides" detailed information about the object. Then, we address issues concerning manipulation of information as organized in our context model. In particular, we focus on the following issues: (i) accessing information in the context structure using paths of names, or paths of references, (ii) retrieval of contextualized information by defining useful fundamental query operations on contexts such as select, project, generate (which allows the reorganization of context structures), and path select. Finally, we illustrate the usefulness of our contextualization mechanism by presenting higher level query operations that enable users to explore a contextualized information base. These higher level operations include focusing on a context of interest, searching the context structure for a specific information, and making cross references of an object from one context to another in order to obtain alternative representations of that object.

Developing a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information
With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
متن کاملA Distributional Semantics Approach for Selective Reasoning on Commonsense Graph Knowledge Bases
Tasks such as question answering and semantic search are dependent on the ability of querying & reasoning over large-scale commonsense knowledge bases (KBs). However, dealing with commonsense data demands coping with problems such as the increase in schema complexity, semantic inconsistency, incompleteness and scalability. This paper proposes a selective graph navigation mechanism based on a di...
متن کاملQuerying Class-Relationship Logic in a Metalogic Framework
We introduce a class relationship logic for stating various forms of logical relationships between classes. This logic is intended for ontologies and knowledge bases and combinations thereof. Reasoning and querying is conducted in the Datalog logical language, which serves as an embracing decidable and tractable metalogic.
متن کاملEpistemic First-order Queries over Description Logic Knowledge Bases
Querying Description Logic knowledge bases has received great attention in the last years. The need of coping with incomplete information is the distinguishing feature with respect to querying databases. Due to this feature, we have to deal with two conflicting needs: on the one hand, we would like to query the knowledge base with sophisticated mechanisms provided by full first-order logic as i...
